Each gift box contains 1x 200ml 46% Vol. Sussex Dry Gin, 1x 200ml 46% Vol. Hedgerow Gin & 1x 200ml 46% Vol. Alexander Gin. Serves 12-24 (roughly – depending on your generosity!).
When hosting your own gin tasting we recommend tasting the gins neat first, or at least sampling their aromas, before mixing with tonic water in ca. 1 part gin to 2 parts tonic ratio. Depending on personal preference of course, anything between 1:1 and 1:3 is quite acceptable. There is a marked contrast to how flavours, especially fruity & floral notes, are experienced in the dry distillate versus with tonic i.e. in the presence of sugar & acidity once again. An instructive & very pleasant gin tasting experience delivered to your door. We hope you’ll enjoy it, responsibly of course, & look forward to your feedback.
To aid your selection of mixers, a fairly dry neutral tonic water (although not with artificial or reduced sugar) e.g. Franklin & Sons Indian or Schweppes 1784 Indian is a good starting point, or whatever your favourite tonic water is, but if you would like to experience our flavour pairings we would suggest the following serves:
- Sussex Dry Gin with Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic Water, garnished with fresh rosemary & a slice of your preferred citrus fruit.
- Hedgerow Gin with Fever-Tree Elderflower Tonic Water, garnished with a freshly crushed or muddled blackberry or raspberry (or two).
- Alexander Gin with Franklin & Sons Indian Tonic Water, garnished with either a slice of fresh cucumber or a bay leaf with a slice or twist of lemon.
A last little tip, please don’t skimp on ice! As a general rule when it comes to a gin & tonic, the more ice the better as it will chill faster & dilute less. If you can keep the mixers in the fridge to serve chilled, even better. If you enjoy sampling neat spirits, you can try popping the gin in the freezer an hour before the tasting (an ice bath with salt added works in a pinch). It will start to become more oily & unctuous, changing how each recipe is experienced and developing different aromas as it warms in the glass.
